A sauna and two plunges on one trailer
Everything Sweat & Freeze runs travels on a single trailer. A barrel sauna with a wood stove sits at the hitch end. Behind it, a covered porch holds benches and two cold plunge tubs, so bathers step from the heat straight into the cold. The company says the sauna reaches up to 200°F.
Customers book the trailer for backyards, gyms, retreats, corporate team-building days, sports events and private parties around Houston, with hourly, overnight and weekend packages. The team delivers, sets up, runs the sauna and packs it up again. Bookings are on the Sweat & Freeze website, and its SaunaShare listing has more photos.
A German Aufguss habit, brought to Houston
Busch grew up in Germany and moved to the US in 2018. “Sauna and Aufguss has been part of my life since I was a kid,” he told SaunaShare in an email on October 20.
Aufguss is the ritual of pouring scented water over hot stones and fanning the heat through the room with a towel. When family visits from Germany, Busch said, he has them bring new Aufguss oils. New York operator Bathhouse now lists seven Aufguss ceremonies a day, and the ritual has four separate world championships.
More places to sauna around the city are on SaunaShare’s Houston page.
