The Danish operator combines 75-minute sauna sessions, optional cold immersion and its own facilitator-training system.

Plugin Heat Club reports that more than 12,000 people a month attend its facilitated heat experiences in Copenhagen. It operates two locations, Amager and Sydhavn, and lists more than 50 certified facilitators. Those are the operator’s figures; it does not publish audited attendance, revenue or a count of unique monthly visitors.

At the International Sauna Congress in Oslo, Danish Sauna Masters Association chairman Anders Hage told Lisa Starr that Plugin receives roughly 10,000 to 15,000 guests a month. The example formed part of his account of Denmark’s growth in mobile saunas and urban sites between small pop-ups and large destination spas, in StarrCast’s Congress interviews.

Two places, one session framework

Plugin Amager, at Kløvermarksvej 70, is the larger gathering space. Plugin Sydhavn, at Vasbygade 10A, is the original, more intimate location. Both sell public sessions through the same booking system. The name does not imply that a visitor must join a private membership club.

The standard experience lasts 75 minutes. Three rounds of facilitated sauna are separated by cooling and rest, with cold plunging optional. Plugin combines saunagus, breath cues, scent and music under its own Heat Method. DEEP is the slower, quieter format; CLUB emphasizes music and shared energy; PEAK is its more intense offering. First-time visitors are directed toward DEEP or CLUB.

The first-visit instructions ask guests to arrive 15 minutes early and bring swimwear, two towels and a water bottle. Showers, changing rooms, lockers and water are provided. Late arrivals cannot enter after a session starts. Guests may leave a round whenever they need to, skip the plunge and remain afterward to socialize.

The facilitator is a recurring operating role

Plugin’s training offer consists of seven modules, 30 lessons and a final assessment in a working sauna. The curriculum covers steam management, heat layers, fanning and towel work, along with cold immersion, breath, scent, music and presence. Founder Hjalte Wieth, also a SOUNDBOKS co-founder, teaches the method.

This is certification in Plugin’s system. It should not be read as an international professional license or evidence that every sauna tradition uses the same training standard. Hage’s Congress interview described a wider effort to develop education and a shared vocabulary for thermal experiences. His proposed framework covers thermal inputs, dosing, human response and human capacity.

For operators, the specific product is a reservable group session with a consistent structure and room for different facilitators’ styles. Staffing, changeover time and the cooling space are part of that product. Our US Aufguss operator playbook examines the related scheduling and commercial questions; our sauna-master report looks at the responsibilities inside the room.

Denmark’s facilitated sauna market

Plugin is one example of the Danish saunagus scene. Butchers Heat’s mobile sauna takes guided heat sessions to different sites, while its stationary Margretheholmen sauna offers a waterfront base with member access and publicly bookable saunagus. These are different access models; a mobile booking’s location and a stationary club’s admission rules need to be checked separately.

Plugin’s guest rules require swimwear, keep phones and photography out of sessions, and prohibit arriving under the influence. The choice to step out or decline cold immersion is explicit. That guest control belongs alongside the social and performative elements discussed in our coverage of sauna entertainment.
