Saunatänav 26: Valga Sauna Street Festival 2026
Mobile saunas and hot tubs are driven into a town square, paraded through the streets, then fired up until 2 a.m. Free entry, a five-euro sauna pass, and a venue that happens to sit on an EU internal border.

Saunatänav 26 runs on Saturday 15 August 2026 in Valga, from 17:50 until 02:00, on the former mill square at Tartu 2. Entry to the site and the programme is free. A sauna pass costs €5 and covers unlimited use of everything on the square.
The format is a mobile fleet, not a venue. Trailer saunas, bus saunas and heated tubs are driven in, paraded through the town, then lit. The organiser, MTÜ Saunaministeerium, a non-profit founded in 2022 and based at Tammesalu farm in Kirbu village, spends the rest of the year renting out exactly that equipment: mobile saunas, hot tubs, star tents, dome tents. The festival is the shop window.
The 2026 Programme

- Live music: Nedsaja Küla Band, the Hellad Velled ensemble, the Absurda dance troupe, and DJ Brandlo
- Heated bathing tubs alongside the saunas
- Late-night cinema watched from the hot tubs, which runs the site past midnight
The Border Is the Interesting Part
Valga is one half of a town. The other half is Valka, in Latvia. They were a single municipality until the border was drawn in 1920, and the line still runs through the middle of the built-up area; you cross it on foot without noticing. That makes Saunatänav the closest thing the Baltics have to a cross-border sauna event, and the organisers have said so explicitly. Reporting on the 2024 edition in Lõunaeestlane quoted organiser Marek Mekk describing it as “an exceptional opportunity to unite people from both sides of the border,” and that edition ran a joint Estonian and Finnish attempt at a Guinness record for the most photos of people in saunas posted to Facebook inside an hour.
The event has moved around the calendar. The 24th edition ran on 8 June 2024 at Ramsi Mill. The 25th ran on 16 August 2025. The 26th is 15 August 2026, so mid-August now looks like the settled slot.
Why an Operator Should Care
Twenty-plus saunas, a headline programme, a town square, and a price of five euros for the whole night. No building, no lease, no plan review, no permanent water. Every asset on that square drives home on Sunday and earns rental income for the rest of the year, which is the part US mobile-sauna operators should sit with: the festival is not the business, it is the marketing spend for an equipment rental business, and it is paid for by the gate.
It is also the only sauna event we are aware of in the Baltics that straddles an international border, which matters if you are looking for a Latvian entry point. Half the catchment for this festival is Latvian, and it is a five-minute walk away.
