Ärni Smoke Sauna Events, Autumn and Winter 2026

Ärni suitsusaun sits at Vatsa in Võru County, past Vastseliina in southern Estonia, and runs a fixed calendar of guided sauna rituals through the autumn. Two dates fall inside the August to September window:

• 7 August 2026 and 11 September 2026 — Naiste aktivatsioonisaun oma ehedusse (women’s activation sauna), part of a monthly series that also runs 2 October, 6 November and 4 December
• 23 September 2026 — Mihklipäeva meestesaun, the Michaelmas men’s sauna

The venue is run by Helen Moppel through Sanna Vägi OÜ. Rituals are guided and run three to four hours. The chimneyless smoke sauna has black walls and ceiling, with a heating cycle of seven to eight hours in cold months and four to five in warm ones. There is a tea house and a pond used for summer swimming and winter ice bathing. Bookings and dates are available through arnisuitsusaun.ee.

The Võromaa smoke-sauna tradition

The smoke sauna tradition in Võromaa entered UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014. The tradition includes bathing customs, construction skills, sauna firing, and meat smoking. Ärni operates within that living regional practice.

How the Program Works

A seven- to eight-hour cold-season heat-up serves one guided session lasting three to four hours. The calendar is built around fixed dates, small groups, and a named practitioner rather than frequent room turnover.
