The October 2025 notice put about 1,000 rooms in a six-month sales window. The September 2026 expansion raised it to about 6,000, ran the window to July 2026, and said the first repair was ineffective. Updated with what held up and what did not.

Update, September 18, 2026 This recall has been superseded. On September 17, 2026, CPSC published recall 26-783, which raises the count from about 1,000 rooms to about 6,000, reports 77 additional bench failures and six injuries, extends the sales window from December 2024 to July 2026, and states that “the previous recall repair was ineffective.” Owners who already received the 2025 repair are told to stop using the sauna again. The same day, Sauna360 recalled about 41,580 infrared and hybrid sauna rooms for a fire hazard. The current contact is 866-936-5962 or recall@sauna360.com, not the number in the 2025 notice below. See our report on both September 2026 notices.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Sauna360 sold about 1,000 Tylö Halmstad and Kiruna Hybrid sauna rooms in the United States from July through December 2024, then recalled them on October 23, 2025 after seven reports of bench failures, including one injury.

Read at the time, that looked like a bounded problem: a six-month sales window, an installed base of about a thousand rooms, and a retrofit to close it out. The 2026 expansion showed all three readings were too narrow. The count is now about six times higher, the sales window runs two years rather than six months, and the retrofit did not hold.

The recall covers five room variants

CPSC’s recall notice pictures each of the five rooms and shows where to find the serial number.

The affected models are the Tylö Halmstad 2, 3, and 4, plus the Tylö Kiruna Hybrid 2 and 3. Those five rooms appear as seven model strings in the CPSC table, because the Halmstad 2 and the Kiruna Hybrid 2 are each listed twice, once at 15 amps and once at 20 amps. The issue is the bench seating: per CPSC, the bench can collapse, posing a fall hazard. Sauna360 said it would send a professional installer to retrofit the benches with additional hardware and issue revised manuals that include the weight limit.

The rooms sold for $6,000 to $12,000 through various distributors nationwide. The CPSC also states that the recalled rooms were manufactured in China. That adds a public data point to the sourcing picture in our analysis of Sauna360’s supply chain and helps explain the company’s exposure in our tariff-exposure analysis for imported room products. The September 2026 expansion went further and named the manufacturer outright: SFactor, of China.

By the numbers, October 2025 notice (recall 26-040): About 1,000 US units. Sales window: July 2024 through December 2024. Recall date: October 23, 2025. Price range: $6,000 to $12,000. Reported incidents: 7. Reported injuries: 1, head and neck. Remedy: free installer retrofit adding bench hardware, plus a revised manual carrying the weight limit. Sauna360’s own copy of the notice adds that nine units were sold in Canada; the CPSC page itself gives no Canadian figure.

What the serial numbers told us, and what we got wrong

The serial spans on the 2025 notice always looked larger than the recall volume. Halmstad units ran from 4933 through 6970. Kiruna Hybrid units ran from 4964 through 7224. We argued at the time that reading those spans as a unit counter would be sloppy, because the ranges cover multiple models and sit inside a broader family numbering system, and that the safer interpretation was CPSC’s own figure of about 1,000 rooms.

The expansion says otherwise. The 2026 ranges run to 18577 for Halmstad and 18503 for Kiruna Hybrid, start lower than the 2025 bands at 4296 and 4674, add a new prefix variant, and add a second Halmstad band in the 48000s. The 2025 bands sit entirely inside the new ones. The wide serial spans were the better signal, and the conservative reading was the wrong one.

The sales window was not a closed cohort

The October 2025 notice gave an unusually tight commercial window, July through December 2024, which is narrow enough to look like a finished rollout rather than a vague multi-year installed base. We treated it as one.

The 2026 notice extends the same recall to rooms sold through July 2026, about nine months after the first recall was announced. A recall’s sales window describes the units the firm has identified so far, not the boundary of the problem.

The federal record on sourcing

The federal record gave the market three data points it did not previously have in one place: the rooms were manufactured in China, they moved through distributors rather than a single retailer, and the defect was structural rather than electrical.

The Tylö brand is marketed around Swedish design and heritage, while the recalled cabinets themselves were imported. The recall does not settle every sourcing question, but it does anchor one part of the picture with a federal document, and the 2026 expansion put the supplier’s name on that document.
